FIXED VALUE: LIGHT, MASS & ENERGY
Kharis Kennedy approaches the body, animals, and objects as sites of knowledge and repositories of awareness that can be resourced in the service of personal discovery. She uses painterly metaphysics and intuition to build images and reveal inner truths.
In Fixed Value the artist pits the measurable: light, weight, and energy – the physical elements of all objects – against the works’ emotional evocativeness. Kennedy depicts the same flower still life twenty-seven times, varying each painting to fulfill a set of predetermined, objective measurements. The series delves into the conflict inherent in knowing that a piece was created to hit a concrete value and yet still having an emotional, subjective response to the spiritual turmoil of both the flowers and the painting on their own terms.
